9 Amazingly Detoxifying Summer Foods

Summer brings a natural appetite for fruit and vegetables in season, light snacks and cooling foods. Anything that keeps you feeling light and helps you stay in tip-top shape also happens to be ubiquitous during the hot summer months.

But some of these foods also have mild detoxifying qualities. They keep your metabolism working optimally and assist your detox organs all day long.
1. Green Smoothies
Green smoothies have become a staple for health seekers out there. You can replace a meal with a smoothie filled with leafy greens and your favorite fruit or make a smaller one and drink as your favorite mid-morning snack. Using spinach or kale as base with pineapple, papayas or apples will give you a perfectly yummy detox drink you can enjoy every day.
2. Dulse
Dulse is a type of seaweed, often eaten dried, that can help improve kidney health and flush out excess sodium. It is a great addition to salads, it’s loaded with vitamin B and help you balance electrolytes, improving water retention, which is a vital part of the detoxification process.
3. Watermelon
This is the quintessential summer fruit. I love to cut it in bite-size cubes, freeze them and enjoy them during picnics and beach outings. Watermelon is known to help the kidneys and the liver flush out toxins and aid in the detox process.
4. Walnuts
Walnuts are available all year round but I wanted to include them here because most people are not aware of their detoxifying qualities. Walnuts are loaded with healthy fats, which lubricate your joints, skin and body at a cellular level. The healthy omega-3 oils in walnuts can ward off damage from free radicals, preventing premature aging and potentially extending your longevity.
5. Pineapple
Another fruit that is very common and easy to find during summer. The active enzymes in pineapples help remove impurities from the GI track and lungs. This also happens to be a delicious summer snack. Add them to your green bowls and smoothies for a tasty, highly detoxifying meal!
6. Apples
It’s hard to find someone who doesn’t enjoy apples. That’s why they are one of the most popular fruits out there. In addition, to help suppress sugar cravings, apples can help reduce your appetite and retain hydration, adding in the detoxification process.
7.Grapefruit
Most citrus fruit have mild detoxification abilities. I happen to prefer grapefruit because they also help you curb your appetite and those crazy cravings that may push you to make choices that you will regret. Grapefruits boost metabolism and improve your immunity, especially against colds and respiratory ailments.
8. Avocados
Avocados are considered a superfood by many nutritionists and experts because they have too many health properties to count, so it's not surprising that these made it on the list. Avocadoes contain glutathione, a nutrient known to block carcinogens and help the liver clear out chemicals from the body.
9. Tahini
Tahini is commonly used as a paste made with sesame seeds. The seeds are high in beneficial oils and are very high in calcium and protein. This protein is an easily digestible form of vegetable protein that also happens to help nourish the skin, hair and nails from the inside out. It’s a great detoxifying oil that nourishes at the same time.
